Born inValencia, Escribá played youth football withValencia, but never competed in higher thanSegunda División B as a senior; he representedMestalla,Nules,[1]Andorra,Catarroja,Torrent,Eldense,Novelda, Villena andPinoso.[2] In 2002, after a year in charge ofBuñol, he returned to Valencia, taking care of the youth sides.

In 2004, Escribá started an association withQuique Sánchez Flores that would last several seasons, always as assistant. He started withGetafe, subsequently moving toBenfica andAtlético Madrid; the pair went their separate ways at the end of2010–11, because the former wanted to have a go at head coaching.[3]

Escribá was appointed atSegunda División clubElche on 12 June 2012.[4] In hisfirst year he led theValencians toLa Liga after an absence of 24 years[5] and, on 28 May 2013, renewed his contract for two more seasons.[6]

On 26 June 2015, followingElche's administrative relegation, Escribá was named Getafe manager.[7] On 11 April of the following year, with the team seriously threatened with relegation, he was sacked.[8]

On 11 August 2016, Escribá replacedMarcelino García Toral at the helm ofVillarreal.[9] He led the side to the fifth position in hisfirst season, with the subsequentqualification for theUEFA Europa League.[10]

On 25 September 2017, in spite of many injuries to the squad,[11] and following a 4–0 away loss against former club Getafe, Escribá was fired.[12] He returned to work on 3 March 2019, becomingCelta de Vigo's third coach ofthe campaign afterMiguel Cardoso's dismissal.[13]

Escribá was relieved of his duties on 3 November 2019, with the team sitting in the relegation zone.[14] He returned to Elche in February 2021,[15] avoiding relegation in thelast matchday at the expense ofHuesca after a 2–0 home win overAthletic Bilbao.[16]

On 21 November 2021, following a 0–3 home loss toReal Betis which saw the side move into the relegation zone, Escribá was dismissed.[17] Eleven months later, he took overReal Zaragoza in the second division.[18]

Escribá was sacked on 20 November 2023, after an eight-match winless run.[19] On 23 September 2024, he was appointed at fellow second-tierGranada.[20]
