TheFoster Islands, part of theWaterhouse Island Group, are two smallgraniteislands with a combined area of 48 hectares (120 acres) situated in Banks Strait, part ofBass Strait, lying close to the north-eastern coast ofTasmania, Australia.[1] The islands form part of Small Bass Strait Islandnature reserve.[2]
Other islands in the Waterhouse Group includeNinth,Tenth,Waterhouse,Little Waterhouse,Maclean,Baynes,Gygnet,Swan,Little Swan,St Helens andPaddys islands andBird Rock andGeorge Rocks islets.[1]
Recorded breedingseabird andwader species arelittle penguin,short-tailed shearwater,white-faced storm-petrel,Pacific gull,sooty oystercatcher andAustralian pelican.Cape Barren geese also breed on the island. Themetallic skink is present.[1]
