Fosopamine (INNTooltip International Nonproprietary Name; developmental code namesSIM-2055,Z-2055; also known asfosfenamine orN-methyldopamine 4-O-phosphate) is adopamine receptor agonist of thephenethylamine andcatecholamine families which was under development for the treatment ofhypertension but was never marketed.[1][2] It is takenorally.[1] Fosopamine is aprodrug ofepinine (N-methyldopaine) and is said to beselectivelymetabolized into epinine in thekidneys.[3] The drug was being developed byAstraZeneca and Zambon Group SpA.[1] It reachedphase 2clinical trials prior to the discontinuation of its development.[1]
