On 4 January 2011, French newspaperL'Equipe announced that Spanish clubReal Madrid was monitoring Lejeune's progress.[12] He was, subsequently, linked to a host of other clubs, notably English clubsManchester United,Manchester City, andArsenal and Italian clubsNapoli andUdinese with all the clubs reportedly likening him to formerFrench internationalLaurent Blanc.[13][14][15] However, despite the speculation, club president Francis Collado declared that he had not had official contact with any club linked to the player.[15]
