TheEnglish-American Building, commonly referenced as theFlatiron Building, is a building completed in 1897 located at 84Peachtree Street NW indowntown Atlanta, Georgia, on thewedge-shapedblock between Peachtree Street NE, Poplar Street NW, and Broad Street NW. It was completed five years beforeNew York'sFlatiron Building, and shares a similar prominentflatiron shape as its counterpart. It was designed byBradford Gilbert, aChicago school contemporary ofDaniel Burnham, the designer of the New York building. The building has 11stories, and is the city's second and oldest standingskyscraper. The Flatiron building is protected by the city as ahistoricbuilding in theFairlie-Poplar district ofdowntown, and is listed in theNational Register of Historic Places.[5]
