
TheFish Market (French:Marché-aux-Poissons[maʁʃeopwasɔ̃];Luxembourgish:Fëschmaart;German:Fischmarkt[ˈfɪʃmaʁkt]ⓘ) is astreet inLuxembourg City, in southernLuxembourg, that shares its name with theneighbourhood directly surrounding it. It lies in the eastern part of theVille Hautequarter.
Built at thejunction of twoRomanroads, the Fish Market was historically the centre of the city.[1] The name is derived from its use as amarketplace for the sale of fish, along with markets for various agricultural produce (such as cheese), the trade of which was the foundation for Luxembourg's early economy.
