Firebase Studio (formerly known asProject IDX) is anonline integrated development environment (IDE) developed byGoogle.[1][2] It is based onVisual Studio Code, and the infrastructure runs onGoogle Cloud. In addition to including the features, languages and plugins supported byVS Code, it has unique functionality built by Google. These include a built-ingenerative artificial intelligence assistant powered byGemini,Nix integrations, andiOS andAndroidemulators.[3][4][5][6] Google also provides templates forJavaScript,Python, andGo projects, as well for as a number ofweb andcross-platform frameworks likeNode,Angular,Flutter,Next.js,React,FireBase,Google Maps, andFlask.[7]

The application was initially only accessible after signing up on a waitlist. It was released as an open beta on May 14th 2024.[8] It was renamed from Project IDX to Firebase Studio on April 15th, 2025.[1]
