Ingrid Filippa Angeldal (born 14 July 1997), known asFilippa Angeldahl, is a Swedish professionalfootballer who plays as a midfielder for SpanishLiga F clubReal Madrid and theSweden national team. She previously played withIK Sirius in the SwedishElitettan,AIK,Hammarby,Linköping FC, andBK Häcken in the SwedishDamallsvenskan, andManchester City in the EnglishWomen's Super League.
Angeldahl started playing football together with her friendNathalie Björn at the age of six when Angeldahl's father helped createVaksala SK, a girl's team for their age. They beat everyone in their age group, teams two years older than them, and won a boys' league too.[2] In 2013, Angeldahl joinedElitettan clubIK Sirius,[3] with which she scored once in 13 appearances over the season.[4]
In 2014, together with Björn, Angeldahl joinedAIK, who had been promoted back to theDamallsvenskan, quickly becoming consistent choices for the starting squad.[5][6]
After AIK's relegation at the end of2015 Damallsvenskan, In January 2016, Angeldahl signed withHammarby, who were also relegated to the Elitettan.[7] In October 2016, Angeldahl scored the decisive goal againstSundsvalls DFF to seal the club's promotion back to the Damallsvenskan with one round left to go.[8] Her performances for Hammarby won her the2017 DamallsvenskanMost Valuable Player award.[9] Shortly afterwards she wastransferred to League championsLinköping FC.[10]
In 2020, Angeldahl joinedKopparbergs/Göteborg FC.[11] In September 2020, she scored her first goal in a 2–0 victory overDjurgården.[12] Two months later, she scored in the 7–0 victory over Linköping FC, securing the2020 Damallsvenskan championship, marking the first time the club won the Swedish championship.[13] In December 2024, while still celebrating the championship, the club dissolved, leaving Angeldahl without a club.[14] However, in January 2021,BK Häcken invested in the club, making it their women's department and Angeldahl became a BK Häcken player.[15][11]
On 2 September 2021, it was announced that Angeldahl had signed a two-year deal with the option of a further year with EnglishWomen's Super League sideManchester City.[16] On 18 May 2024, it was announced that Angeldahl would leave the club upon the expiry of her contract.[17]
On 1 July 2024, it was announced that she had signed forLiga F clubReal Madrid.[3][18] Her move to Real Madrid led to more playing time, and in December 2024, theSwedish Football Association awarded her the Midfielder of the Year award at theFotbollsgalan.[19]
At the2018 Algarve Cup, Angeldahl made her debut for the seniorSweden team, playing in fixtures againstSouth Korea andRussia.[20]
In July 2021, Angeldahl made her Olympic debut in theWomen's football tournament of the2020 Summer Olympics. She started the match against theUnited States, playing 75 minutes and receiving praise on television.[21]
On 13 June 2023, she was included in the 23-player squad for theFIFA Women's World Cup 2023.[22]
As well as football, Angeldahl playedbandy forIK Sirius, focusing on it as a teen with football being a summer sport for her.[23] In 2013, Angeldahl was the topscorer of theBandy World Championship G-17 which Sweden won. Two years later, she was one of the heroes of the under-19 team who won the 2015 European Championship.[24]
In May 2024, Angeldahl became a mother, together with her partner Megan Brakes.[25]
