Fernando Azevedo e Silva (born 4 February[citation needed] 1954) is a Brazilian politician and reservearmy general. He served as the BrazilianMinister of Defence during the first half of PresidentJair Bolsonaro's term from January 2019 to March 2021.
He graduated asInfantry Officer on December 14, 1976, at theAcademia Militar das Agulhas Negras, and was promoted toArmy general (four stars rank) on July 31, 2014.
He was assistant toSupreme Federal Court Chief JusticeDias Toffoli. On 13 November 2018, he was named by President-electJair Bolsonaro as his choice forMinister of Defence, replacing previous nomineeAugusto Heleno, who was instead named as head of theInstitutional Security Office.[1] On March 29, 2021, Azevedo resigned, along with the five other ministers.[2]
