Faust is a 1960 West German theatrical film directed byPeter Gorski. It is based onGoethe'sFaust (1808) and adapted from the theater production at theDeutsches Schauspielhaus inHamburg. It stars Peter Gorski's adoptive father Gustaf Gründgens asMephistopheles and Will Quadflieg asFaust, and was chosen as West Germany'sofficial submission to the33rd Academy Awards forBest Foreign Language Film, but did not receive a nomination.[1][2] The film also won aDeutscher Filmpreis (transl.: German Movie Award) for anOutstanding Documentary or Cultural Film in 1961.
