Father Mother Sister Brother is a 2025comedy-dramaanthology film written and directed byJim Jarmusch. It stars an ensemble cast that includesTom Waits,Adam Driver,Mayim Bialik,Charlotte Rampling,Cate Blanchett,Vicky Krieps,Sarah Greene,Indya Moore andLuka Sabbat.

The film had its world premiere in the main competition of the82nd Venice International Film Festival on August 31, 2025, where it won theGolden Lion.[1][2] It is scheduled to be theatrically released in the United States byMubi on December 24, 2025.[3]

Speaking at theOutlook Festival in April 2023, Jarmusch said he was working on a new film that was a "very subtle film; it’s very quiet…Funny and sad". He hinted that the film may not have any music.[4] In November 2023, it was reported that the title of the film would beFather Mother Sister Brother.[5] The film is produced by Exoskeleton with Animal Kingdom and CG Cinema.[6]

In December 2023, it was reported thatCate Blanchett was cast in the film.[7] In January 2024, set photos showedVicky Krieps in costume on set.[8] In May 2024,Adam Driver,Mayim Bialik,Tom Waits,Charlotte Rampling,Indya Moore andLuka Sabbat were announced to be part of the cast.[9][10]

Filming

Principal photography began in November 2023 inWest Milford, New Jersey.[11] Filming took place inDublin in early 2024.[12] Filming wrapped inParis in early 2024.[13]

Release

During a Q&A session atSXSW London in June 2025,Efe Cakarel, the CEO of streaming service and distributorMubi, revealed thatFather Mother Sister Brother would premiere at the2025 Venice Film Festival.[14]

On thereview aggregator websiteRotten Tomatoes, 80% of 35 critics' reviews are positive.[15]Metacritic, which uses aweighted average, assigned the film a score of 76 out of 100, based on 17 critics, indicating "generally favorable" reviews.[16]

Matthew Joseph Jenner from theInternational Cinephile Society called it "one of the year’s most lovely, gentle films”, awarding it 4 stars out of 5.[citation needed]
