Faith Erin Hicks is a Canadian cartoonist andanimator living inVancouver,British Columbia.

She has created a number of graphic novels, both as sole creator (such asZombies Calling! andFriends with Boys) and as a collaborator (Nothing Could Possibly Go Wrong andBuffy: The High School Years), as well as serialized works likeDemonology 101 andThe Adventures of Superhero Girl.

Biography

After studying animation atSheridan College, Faith Erin Hicks came to prominence with her long-running webcomicDemonology 101 (D101).[1]

Since the beginning ofDemonology 101, Hicks has completed a spinoff of theD101 character Sachs entitledA Distant Faith.[2] She also created azombie-movie inspired comic calledZombies Calling,[3][4] as well as thedystopian comicIce (originally published onModern Tales).[5]

She drew backgrounds for theGeorge of the Jungle animated series[4] and createdJenny’s Brothers, acomic strip to theHalifax Chronicle-Herald.[6] Her original comic seriesThe Adventures of Superhero Girl ran weekly in Halifax's local free paper,The Coast, as well as on her own website. and was collected into a book by Dark Horse Comics.[7]

Her graphic novelFriends with Boys was published in February 2012 fromFirst Second. She was also the illustrator and co-writer for the graphic novelThe Last of Us: American Dreams, along withNeil Druckmann.

On January 30, 2014, it was announced that Hicks would illustrate the first of two graphic novels written by young adult authorRainbow Rowell.[8] This book would be published asPumpkinheads on August 27, 2019.[9]

On October 26, 2020, Hicks announced she was working onRide On, her upcoming graphic novel, to be published by First Second.[10]

Hicks has won twoEisner Awards. In 2014, she won for Best Publication for Kids forThe Adventures of Superhero Girl.[11] Then in 2019Eisner Award for Best Publication for Kids (ages 9–12) forThe Nameless City: The Divided Earth.[12]
