Facundo Sebastián Roncaglia (Spanish pronunciation:[faˈkundoroŋˈkaɣlja];Italian:[roŋˈkaʎʎa]; born 10 February 1987) is an Argentine professionalfootballer who plays forSarmiento. Mainly acentral defender, he can also play as aright-back.
Born inChajarí,Entre Ríos Province of Italian descent,[2] Roncaglia made his professional debut withBoca Juniors, his firstPrimera División match being on 21 October 2007 in a 1–1 draw againstEstudiantes de La Plata. He helped thecapital team win the2008Apertura.
On 27 July 2009, Roncaglia signed withLa Liga sideRCD Espanyol on loan,[3] being part of a squad that also featured five compatriots – including managerMauricio Pochettino and former Boca teammateJuan Forlín. He returned to his previous team at the end ofthe season, only to make an immediate move to Estudiantes on loan.[4]
Roncaglia left Boca in July 2012 as afree agent,[5] having scored in the first leg of the2012 Copa Libertadores final againstSport Club Corinthians Paulista late in the previous month (1–1 home draw, 3–1 aggregate loss).[6] He joinedACF Fiorentina in Italy immediately after,[7] going on to appear in an average of 22Serie A matches during his spell and also being loaned to fellow league clubGenoa CFC.[8]
On 12 July 2016, Roncaglia returned to Spanish football after agreeing to a four-year deal withRC Celta de Vigo.[9] On 11 May 2017, he headed home in a 1–1 away draw againstManchester United in the second leg ofthe semi-finals of theUEFA Europa League, but was alsosent off following a spat withEric Bailly and his team was ousted 2–1 on aggregate.[10]
On 31 January 2019, Roncaglia was loaned toValencia CF until June.[11] On 8 August, after returning from loan, he signed a one-year contract with fellow top-tier clubCA Osasuna for a fee of €250,000.[12]
Roncaglia made his debut forArgentina on 15 November 2013, playing 63 minutes in a 0–0friendly draw inEcuador.[13] He was selected by coachGerardo Martino for the2015 Copa América[14] and started in the team's opening fixture, a 2–2 draw againstParaguay inLa Serena.[15]
