Fa (Chinese: 發, Fā) was the 16th ruler of theXia dynasty, father of the infamousJie who brought thedynasty to its end.[1][2]
His given name wasHoujing (后敬).
Fa was a son of the KingGao of Xia and thus a grandson ofKong Jia.[3]
During hisinauguralcelebration, all of hisvassals gathered at hispalace.
The firstearthquake ever recorded took place in the 7th year of his rule atMount Tai[4] in modernShandong during his reign. The event has been dated to 1740 BC as theMount Tai earthquake.[5]
The earthquake was mentioned briefly in theBamboo Annals.[6][7]
