Fibroblast growth factor 6 is aprotein that in humans isencoded by theFGF6gene.[5][6]
The protein encoded by this gene is a member of thefibroblast growth factor (FGF) family. FGF family members possess broadmitogenic and cell survival activities, and are involved in a variety of biological processes, includingembryonic development, cell growth, morphogenesis, tissue repair, tumor growth andinvasion. This gene displayed oncogenic transforming activity when transfected intomammalian cells. Themousehomolog of this gene exhibits a restricted expression profile predominantly in themyogenic lineage, which suggested a role in muscle regeneration or differentiation.[6]
