Fábio Leandro Freitas Gouveia Carvalho (born 30 August 2002) is a Portuguese professionalfootballer who plays as aleft winger orattacking midfielder forPremier League clubBrentford. A former youth international for England, Carvalho now represents Portugal internationally at under-21 level.
Carvalho was born inTorres Vedras, in theLisbon District of Portugal and grew up in Zona J, Chelas.[4] His father is Angolan and his mother is fromMadeira, Portugal.[5] He has 2 older brothers and a younger sister.[6] He played in the youth academy of Olivais Sul andBenfica. At the age of 11, he moved with his family toSouth London, where he was educated atCoombe Boys' School inNew Malden.[7][4] He played forBalham before being signed byFulham in 2015.[8] He is fluent in both Portuguese and English.[9]
In May 2020, Carvalho signed his first professional contract with Fulham, for two years.[10] On 23 September, Carvalho made his first-team debut as a substitute in a 2–0EFL Cup victory overSheffield Wednesday.[11] On 15 May 2021, Carvalho scored his first goal in a 3–1 away league defeat toSouthampton.[12]
Carvalho had an impressive start to the2021–22 season, scoring three goals in his first five matches as Fulham looked to return to thePremier League. As a result, Carvalho was awarded theEFL Young Player of the Month for August 2021.[13]

Carvalho agreed to sign for Premier League clubLiverpool in May 2022 for a reported fee of £5 million, potentially rising to £7.7 million with add-ons. The transfer became official on 1 July and Carvalho was officially unveiled two days later.[14][15] He scored his first goal for the club on 27 August ina 9–0 home win overAFC Bournemouth in the Premier League.[16] Four days later, on 31 August, he scored a crucial 98th minute match-winning goal during a 2–1 victory againstNewcastle United atAnfield.[17]
On 30 June 2023, Carvalho joinedBundesliga clubRB Leipzig on a season-long loan.[18]
On 12 August 2023, Carvalho made his debut for Leipzig in theDFL-Supercup match againstBayern Munich, coming on as a substitute forDani Olmo in the 78th minute. His side won the match 3–0, giving Carvalho his first piece of silverware with the club.[19]
Carvalho's loan was ended early on 31 December 2023 and he returned to Liverpool.[20]
On 10 January 2024, Carvalho joinedEFL Championship clubHull City on loan until the end of the season.[21] He made his debut on 12 January, in a 2–1 home loss toNorwich City.[22] He scored his first goal for Hull in a 1–0 away win overSunderland on 19 January.[23] A strong end to the season, scoring five goals in seven appearances, saw Carvalho become just the third player to win the EFL Young Player of the Month award on a second occasion.[24]

On 12 August 2024, Carvalho joinedBrentford on a five-year deal, with a further one-year option.[25] He scored his first Premier League goal for Brentford in a 5–3 victory againstWolverhampton Wanderers on 5 October 2024.[26] He netted a late equalizer in a 2–2 draw againstChelsea on 13 September 2025.[27]
Carvalho has represented England up tounder-18 level.[10]
Carvalho was called up to Portugal'sunder-21 team on 17 March 2022, ahead of European Championship qualifying games againstIceland andGreece.[28]
In October 2022, he was named in Portugal's preliminary 55-mansquad for the2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.[29] However, he was not selected as part of the final 26-man squad.[30]
