Ezio Loik (Italian pronunciation:[ˈɛttsjoˈlɔik]; 26 September 1919 – 4 May 1949) was an Italianfootballer who played as amidfielder.

Born inFiume, Loik began his career withFiumana. He made hisSerie A debut withA.C. Milan in 1937, and after three seasons, moved toVenezia. In Venice, he formed a notable partnership withValentino Mazzola, and won theCoppa Italia in 1941. The following season, he moved toTorino, where he immediately won the domestic double and five consecutive Serie A titles.

At the international level, Loik represented theItaly national team. He died in the 1949Superga air disaster, along with the entireGrande Torino team.[1]

Club career

Loik was born inFiume (then part of Italy, nowRijeka, Croatia). He played as amidfielder, debuting forU.S. Fiumana aged 17 in the 1936–37serie C tournament. After three seasons inSerie A withA.C. Milan, he moved toVenezia, where he obtained a third place and aCoppa Italia in 1941.[1]

He moved toTorino in 1942, where he formed a notable midfield duo withValentino Mazzola, who had also previously played for Venezia.[1]

With theGrande Torino side, Loik won five consecutive Serie Ascudetti and one further Coppa Italia (1942–43), until dying with most of the team in theSuperga air disaster nearTurin, on 4 May 1949, which also made up much of theItaly national team at the time.[1]

Loik was also capped nine times for theItaly national team between 1942 and 1949, scoring four goals.[2]
