TheExtensible User Interface Protocol, orXUP, is a proposedweb standard. XUP is aSOAP-basedprotocol for communicating events in auser interface, where the user interface is described by anXML document.[1] The specification does not limit what format the XML document is in, or whatevent model is used for communicating over XUP. Examples given in the specification for possible user interface languages includeXHTML,Wireless Markup Language, andXUL.
The XUP specification was submitted to theWorld Wide Web Consortium (W3C) by Consortium member MartSoft Corporation in March 2002.[citation needed]As of 2006[update], it is a W3CNote, meaning the W3C has not committed to developing the standard as a potentialRecommendation, and it is hosted for informational purposes only.
