TheEuropean Esperanto Union (EEU;Esperanto:Eŭropa Esperanto-Unio) is a union of the nationalEsperanto associations of theEuropean Union member states. It holds congresses every two years. The congress inMaribor, Slovenia, in July and August 2007, attracted 256 delegates from 28 countries, including two members of theEuropean Parliament,Małgorzata Handzlik ofPoland andLjudmila Novak ofSlovenia.
In December 2009, the EEU ran a full-page advertisement in the French newspaperLe Monde advocating the use of Esperanto instead ofEnglish.[1] As of October 2011[update], Seán Ó Riain is the president of the EEU.[2]
