Eugène Félicien Albert, Count Goblet d'Alviella (10 August 1846 – 9 September 1925) was a lawyer, liberal senator ofBelgium and aProfessor of the history of religions and rector of theUniversite Libre de Bruxelles (ULB).[1] He was the father ofFélix Goblet d'Alviella, a lawyer and director of theRevue de Belgique.
He became famous for this bookThe Migration of Symbols,[2] which is one of the foundations of religiousarcheology. He was afreemason, a member of the lodgeLes Amis Philanthropes (initiated in 1870), Grand Master of theGrand Orient of Belgium (1884), andGrand Commander of theSupreme Council in 1900.
