Eudibamus is anextinctgenus ofbipedbolosauridreptile known from theFree State of Thuringia of centralGermany.[1] It had a very small size reaching only 25-26 cm in length.[2]
Eudibamus is known only from theholotypeMNG 8852, an articulated and almost completecranial andpostcranialskeleton. It was collected from the uppermost part of theTambach Formation, dating to theArtinskian stage of the LateCisuralianSeries (or alternatively upperRotliegend), about 284–279.5million years ago. It was found in the lowermost formational unit of the Upper Rotliegend Group or Series of theBromacker Quarry, the middle part of the Thuringian Forest, near the village ofTambach-Dietharz.Eudibamus is claimed to be the firstbipedalvertebrate.[1]
Eudibamus was named by David S. Berman,Robert R. Reisz, Diane Scott, Amy C. Henrici, Stuart S. Sumida and Thomas Martens in2000 and thetype species isEudibamus cursoris. Thegeneric name means 'typical two-footed' (fromGreekeu-di-bāmos, based onbainō ‘to go’). Thespecific name is derived from theLatincursor, or 'runner'.[1]
