Etafedrine (INNTooltip International Nonproprietary Name,BANTooltip British Approved Name), sold under the brand nameNethaprin among others and also known asN-ethylephedrine, is asympathomimetic agent used as abronchodilator to treatasthma.[2][3][4] It was previously commercially available as both thefree base and as thehydrochloridesalt from Sanofi-Aventis (nowSanofi) but is now no longer marketed.[citation needed]

Pharmacology

[edit]

Unlikeephedrine andtyramine, etafedrine does notinduce the release ofepinephrine ornorepinephrine and instead acts as aselectiveβ2-adrenergic receptor agonist, thereby mediating itsbronchodilator effects.[4][5]
