Estonia–Iceland relations are thebilateral relations betweenEstonia andIceland. Iceland was the first country to re-recognized Estonia's independence on 22 August 1991.[1] According toLennart Meri"Iceland has a great role in changing the world in 1991 as an icebreaker, because Iceland reminded everyone of lost values". Both countries established diplomatic relations onAugust 26,1991.[2] Estonia is represented in Iceland through its embassy inOslo (Norway) and an honorary consulate inReykjavik. Iceland is represented in Estonia through its embassy inHelsinki (Finland).
Both countries are full members ofNATO, theJoint Expeditionary Force, theCouncil of Europe, and theCouncil of the Baltic Sea States.
In September 1999, presidentLennart Meri made a state visit to Iceland.[3]
In 2010, presidentToomas Hendrik Ilves and his wifeEvelin Ilves made a state visit to Iceland.[4]
In May 2018, prime ministerJüri Ratas visited Iceland and met with prime ministerKatrín Jakobsdóttir and presidentGuðni Th. Jóhannesson.[5]
In June 1998, presidentÓlafur Ragnar Grímsson and his wifeGuðrún Katrín Þorbergsdóttir made a state visit to Estonia along with foreign ministerHalldór Ásgrímsson.[6]
In June 2018, presidentGuðni Th. Jóhannesson and first ladyEliza Reid visited Estonia.[7]
In August 2021,the speaker of the Icelandic Parliament,Steingrímur J. Sigfússon, was a honor guest at Estonia's 30th independence anniversary.[8]
