Esteban Laureano Maradona, popularly known asDoctor Maradona (July 4, 1895 – January 14, 1995), was acountry medical doctor,naturalist, writer andphilanthropist. Maradona practiced medicine in the rural village ofEstanislao del Campo, located in the province ofFormosa, for 50 years. Maradona moved toParaguay during theChaco War, where he was appointed director ofAsunción's Naval Hospital. He also worked withindigenous communities on economic, cultural, humanitarian, and social issues.
Maradona was the author of numerous scientific works onanthropology, rural chronicles, andflora and fauna.
Some of Maradona's approximately 20 books have not yet been published, though in 1994 the Argentine Congress passed a resolution to edit and donate copies of Maradona's books to public libraries to further his legacy.
