Estadio Édgar Rentería is abaseball stadium located inBarranquilla, Colombia, and the current home of theCaimanes de Barranquilla. It has a capacity of 12,000 and opened in 2018.[1]
The ballpark opened in 2018 with an international friendly tournament, featuring the national teams ofColombia,Dominican Republic,Puerto Rico, andVenezuela. The stadium was host to the2018 Central American and Caribbean Games and the2018 U-23 Baseball World Cup.[4]
The stadium was built on the site of the formerEstadio Tomás Arrieta, which was demolished in 2016. In 2010, Barranquilla MayorAlejandro Char Chaljub announced that it would be named afterÉdgar Rentería, who had been namedWorld Series MVP for thechampionship-winningSan Francisco Giants.[2] Initially, the stadium was expected to cost around 26 billion pesos, but eventually ballooned to 45 billion pesos.[2] During its construction, Caimanes temporarily relocated toSanta Cruz de Lorica, in the nearbyCórdoba Department.[5]
