Essam Hamad Salem (Arabic:عِصَام حَمَد سَالِم; born 22 October 1973) is an Iraqifootball coach and former player.

He played as amidfielder forIraq in the2000 Asian Cup. Essam also played forAl-Karkh,Al-Taawun, andAl-Zawraa at club level.

Club level

Hamad won the double (league andcup) twice, withAl-Zawraa in the1994–95 and1995–96 seasons.[2]

International career

Having already played for theIraq Olympic team at thequalifiers for the1996 Summer Olympics, Hamad began playing for thesenior team in 1995.[2] He was a regular at the1996 AFC Asian Cup and2000 AFC Asian Cup.[2]

Hamad was selected to play for an Asianall-star team in 2000 by theAFC inTehran, Iran, to commemorate the founding of theIslamic Republic of Iran.[2] He captained the side in the second half. The all-star team was beaten 5–0 byIran.[2]
