TheEscalante Desert is a geographicGreat Basin region and ariddesertecoregion, in thedeserts and xeric shrublandsbiome, located in southwesternUtah.
The Escalante Desert is northwest ofCedar City inIron County, Utah, and extends into part ofMillard County.[1] The region spans most of Iron County, which annually has 13 inches (330 mm) rainfall and 5.9 feet (1.8 m) snowfall.[2] The Escalante region also lies primarily betweenState Route 56 andRoute 21, as well as north and west ofInterstate 15.
From the Escalante Desert region's peripheral ridges, the elevation slowlydeclines toLund Flats (38°01′19″N113°26′20″W / 38.02194°N 113.43889°W /38.02194; -113.43889),[1] which has railroad tracks betweenMilford andLund.
NearBeryl Junction (37°42′34″N113°39′22″W / 37.70944°N 113.65611°W /37.70944; -113.65611)[1] are 3fissures formed by suspectedgroundwater-related subsidence caused bygroundwater extraction for agriculturalirrigation.[3]
Iron County, UT, gets 13 inches of rain per year
