Ernest Leon Pough (born May 17, 1952) is an American former professionalfootball player who was awide receiver for three seasons in theNational Football League (NFL) for thePittsburgh Steelers andNew York Giants.
Pough grew up inJacksonville, Florida and attended college atTexas Southern University inHouston, Texas, ahistorically black college which at the time competed inDivision II. He was a four-timeAll-Americatrack athlete as well as arunning back andwide receiver on the school'sfootball team.[1]
Pough was selected by thePittsburgh Steelers in the third round of the1976 NFL draft. Although he was considered undersized for the NFL, his sprinter's speed (he ran the100 yards in 9.3 seconds) made him a threat.[1]
He played for the Steelers for two seasons before being traded along withguardJim Clack to theNew York Giants prior to the1978 season in exchange for offensive linemanJohn Hicks.[2] He played one season with the Giants and one for theEdmonton Eskimos of theCanadian Football League before ending his football career.
