Erik Oluf Preben Schmidt (born 30 April 1939 inRio de Janeiro) is a Braziliansailor who competed in theSummer Olympic Games, thePan American Games, theSnipe World Championships, theStar World Championships and theLightning World Championships.[1]

He is the son of Preben Tage Axel Schmidt (born in 1898 inFrederiksberg,Denmark) and Helene Margrete Jelinski (born inLyck,East Prussia) and brother of Ingrid, Margrete andAxel Schmidt, also competitive Brazilian sailors. Ingrid is the mother ofTorben Grael,Lars Grael, andAxel Grael.[2]

Him and his twin brotherAxel Schmidt were known as "the sea twins" after winning 3Snipe Worlds in a row (1961, 1963 and 1965). They also won the1959 Pan American Games and finished 2nd in the1963 Pan American Games inLightning and third in the1961 Lightning World Championships. In theStar class, they were 9th at the1967 Star World Championships.
