Inenzymology, anenamidase (EC3.5.2.18) is anenzyme thatcatalyzes thechemical reaction

6-oxo-1,4,5,6-tetrahydronicotinate + 2 H2O{\displaystyle \rightleftharpoons } 2-formylglutarate + NH3

Thus, the twosubstrates of this enzyme are6-oxo-1,4,5,6-tetrahydronicotinate andH2O, whereas its twoproducts are2-formylglutarate andNH3.

This enzyme belongs to the family ofhydrolases, those acting on carbon-nitrogen bonds other than peptide bonds, specifically in cyclic amides. Thesystematic name of this enzyme class is6-oxo-1,4,5,6-tetrahydronicotinate amidohydrolase.
