Emily Catrin Darlington is a BritishLabour Party politician who has beenMember of Parliament forMilton Keynes Central since2024.[1]
Darlington was born atSt Thomas' Hospital in London, England. She emigrated to Canada with her father when she was young, spending her summers in south Wales. She returned to live in the United Kingdom inc. 2000.[2]
She co-founded the strategic communications consultancy Aequitas, which she stepped down from in 2013[3] and has previously worked in international development.[4] In her maiden speech talked about her "passion for international development".[2] She worked as a volunteer and board member of a Kenyan charity working to alleviate poverty.[citation needed]
In the2015 general election Darlington stood for the seat ofMilton Keynes North, but came second.[5] In 2018 she won a seat as a councillor on theMilton Keynes Council in a by-election.[6] She would become deputy leader of the Labour group.[7]
She is part of theWhite Ribbon Campaign.[8]
On 24 July 2024, Darlington made hermaiden speech in theHouse of Commons during a debate on education and opportunity.[2]
In November 2024, Darlington voted in favour of theTerminally Ill Adults (End of Life) Bill, which proposes to legaliseassisted dying.[9]
