Emil Karas (December 13, 1933 – November 25, 1974) was an American professionalfootball player who was alinebacker in theNational Football League (NFL) for theWashington Redskins and in theAmerican Football League (AFL) with theLos Angeles / San Diego Chargers. He was on the Chargers' 1963AFL Championship team, and anAFL All-Star in 1961, 1962, and 1963. Karas playedcollege football at theUniversity of Dayton and wasdrafted in the third round of the1959 NFL draft. He died of pancreatic cancer on November 25, 1974, at age 40.[1]
