From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Biography

[edit]

He fought in theLazic War, which saw the Byzantine Empire pitted against theSasanian Empire. At theSiege of Phasis, he protected the Byzantine ships.[1]

Etymology

[edit]

His name is, probably coincidentally, a homophone ofTungusicelmin, "young horse". This was also the name of aManchu tribe. If such were indeed the origin of his name it would make it the only known Tungusic word in the Hunnic vocabulary.[2][3]
