Elkan Rogers Blout (July 2, 1919 – December 20, 2006)[2] was abiochemist atPolaroid Corporation,Boston Children's Hospital, and the Edward S. Harkness Professor of Biological Chemistry, emeritus atHarvard University.[3][4]
Blout received his BA in chemistry in 1939 fromPrinceton University, and his Ph.D. in 1942 fromColumbia University.[5]
Blout was elected to theUnited States National Academy of Sciences in 1969.[3] In 1990, he was awarded theNational Medal of Science "for his pioneering studies ofproteinconformation and devotion to the scientific enterprise of the Nation".[6]
Blout died in December 2006, inBoston.[2][7]
