Elizabeth Gibney is a senior physics reporter atNature.[1] She has written forScientific American,BBC andCERN.

Education

Gibney studied theNatural Sciences Tripos at theUniversity of Cambridge.[2] She completed aMaster of Science (MSc) postgraduate degree in Science Communication atImperial College London.[2]

Career

Gibney worked forResearch Fortnight. Gibney worked in the communications team for theCompact Muon Solenoid (CMS) experiment atCERN.[3] She has been described as "feminist science journalist".[4] She worked atTimes Higher Education between 2012 and 2013.[5] She dubbed the excitement surroundingparticle physics after detection of theHiggs boson asHiggsteria.[6]

Gibney joinedNature in 2013 and is now[when?] senior physics reporter.[7] Gibney produces 3-minute guides to new areas of research.[8] In 2014, she won theMalofiej Medal for herinfographicsLanding on a comet.[9] in 2015, she was highly commended at theScience Journalism Awards for her short video "Laniakea: Our home supercluster".[10][11]

She has written forScientific American,The Sunday Times,BBC News and theDepartment for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA).[12]
