Eliza Bennett[1] (born 17 March 1992)[2] is an English actress and singer. Her most notable roles have been those of Meggie Folchart in the filmInkheart, Tora in the filmNanny McPhee, Susan inFrom Time to Time and Holly Manson in theWest End musicalLoserville. Bennett starred on the black comedy seriesSweet/Vicious as Jules Thomas. In 2021, Bennett playedAmanda Carrington in the final two seasons (2021–2022) of the seriesDynasty.
Bennett was born and grew up inReading, Berkshire[3] with her older brother and sister[4] and attendedLeighton Park School.[5][6][7]
Bennett landed her first role as Jemima inChitty Chitty Bang Bang at theLondon Palladium in 2002 aged nine.[8] She got her first film role playing Princess Arabella in 2004'sThe Prince & Me.[9][10] In 2005 Bennett landed one of her biggest film roles, playing Tora inNanny McPhee.[11][12]
In 2005, she played Hayley in the TV movieSupernova,[13] Young Anne in the 2006 filmVictims, Emily inThe Contractor withWesley Snipes[14][15] and television work as Nora in theAgatha Christie's Marple episode "By the Pricking of My Thumbs".[16][17]
In 2006, Bennett played the role of Meggie Folchart in the filmInkheart,[12][18] based on the novel byCornelia Funke. In 2009, she went on to land the role of Susan inJulian Fellowes' filmFrom Time to Time.[19]
In 2010, Bennett played the role of Kate Anderson inJohannes Roberts' thriller filmF,[20][21] and appeared inRoadkill in 2011.[22] In 2012, she portrayed the psychopathic character of Kayleigh in the thriller filmConfine;[23][24] a role for which she received a best supporting actress nomination at the Wild Rose Independent Film Festival, eventually receiving a distinctive achievement award.[25] and also winning Best Actress Award for Confine at CYIFF 2013[citation needed]
Bennett played Alex/Brittany in the 2015 filmH8RZ[26][27] and Agathe Von Trapp in the 2015 filmThe von Trapp Family: A Life of Music.[28][29]
From 2016 to 2017, Bennett starred as Jules Thomas inSweet/Vicious.[30][31] In 2021, she began playingAmanda Carrington in theCW seriesDynasty.[32][33]
Bennett performed a song forInkheart's soundtrack, called "My Declaration", originally written and performed byTom Baxter.[34][35]
In 2012, Bennett went back to musical theatre when she was cast as Holly in theWest End musicalLoserville.[36][37][8] This was first performed at theWest Yorkshire Playhouse inLeeds,[36] before getting a West End transfer to theGarrick Theatre in 2012.[38]
Bennett released her new EP "Late Twenties" in November 2022.[39]
