Elivélton Alves Rufino, commonly known simply asElivélton (born 31 July 1971), is a Brazilian formerfootballer who played as amidfielder for severalCampeonato Brasileiro Série A clubs.[2] He also played for theBrazil national team.

Club career

Born inSerrania,Minas Gerais state,[3] Elivélton started his professional career in 1990, when he joinedSão Paulo, after leaving his youth club Esportiva de Passos.[4] Defending São Paulo, he won theCampeonato Paulista in 1991 and in 1992, theSérie A in1991, theCopa Libertadores in1992 and in1993, and theIntercontinental Cup in1993.[1] In1994, he won theJ1 League, being awarded as the best foreigner player in the league, while playing forNagoya Grampus Eight.[1] He then was transferred toCorinthians, and wonthat season'sCopa do Brasil and the Campeonato Paulista.[1] Elivélton won the Campeonato Paulista again, in 1996, this time with Corinthians' biggest rival,Palmeiras.[1] After joiningCruzeiro in 1997, he won theCopa Libertadores again, and also won theCampeonato Mineiro.[1] In the subsequent years, he played for several clubs,Internacional,Ponte Preta,São Caetano,Bahia,Uberlândia,Vitória-ES, andUnião Rondonópolis.[1] Elivélton won theCampeonato Capixaba in 2006, while defending Vitória-ES.[5] He joinedFrancana in 2007, after spending some time training in his academy inAlfenas, Minas Gerais state.[6]

International career

He played four games, between 1991 and 1992, scoring two goals for theBrazilian Olympic team.[7] Both goals were scored on January 22, 1991, against theUnited States team.[7] Elivélton played eleven games for theBrazilian main team,[7] including twoCopa América games in1993, respectively againstPeru on June 18, andChile on June 21.[8] The first game was played on October 30, 1991, againstYugoslavia, while the last game was played on August 8, 1993, againstMexico.[7] His only goal was scored on December 18, 1991, againstCzechoslovakia.[7]
