TheDalecarlian alphabet consists of 32 letters, 25 derived from theSwedish alphabet, and seven additional letters:vowels with anogonek diacritic, denoting nasality: (Ąą,Ęę,Įį,Ųų,Y̨y̨, andĄ̊ą̊) as well as the consonantÐð (eð), denotingvoiced dental fricative, as 'th' in 'father'. The lettersCc,Qq,Xx andZz are only used in names and foreign words. The alphabet is used forElfdalian and for otherDalecarlian dialects. The language up until recently and on a small scale today is written withDalecarlian runes.
