Eileen Cheng-yin Chow

Sinologist, teacher and translator

Eileen Chengyin Chow (Chinese:周成蔭) is a sinologist, Chinese translator and University Teacher.[1] She works for theDuke University and for theShih Hsin University inTaipei,Taiwan.[2]

She graduated in literature fromHarvard University and studied her Ph.D. incomparative literature atStanford University.[3] Together withCarlos Rojas, in 2009 she translated toEnglishBrothers, the longest novel written by theChinese novelistYu Hua. The novel was shortlisted for theMan Asian Literary Prize and was awarded France's Prix Courrier International in 2008.[4][5]

She is director of theCheng Shewo Institute of Chinese Journalism at the Shih Hsin University.[6]

She is the granddaughter ofCheng Shewo, a journalist, publisher, and educator of theRepublic of China, who founded theShih Hsin University inTaiwan,[7] and the niece of Taiwanese sociologistLucie Cheng.[8]
