Edward D. Berkowitz is a professor of history atGeorge Washington University.[1]
A graduate ofPrinceton University, Berkowitz received his master's and doctoral degrees in American history fromNorthwestern University. His area of special expertise is the history ofSocial Security and related social policies.[2]
Before moving to George Washington in 1982, he served as the first John F. Kennedy Fellow at theUniversity of Massachusetts Boston and as a senior staff member of the President'sCommission for a National Agenda for the Eighties.[3]He has consulted on various aspects of social welfare policy with such organizations as theMilbank Memorial Fund,The Century Foundation, theCommittee for Economic Development, theHastings Center, and theHealth Insurance Association of America.[4] He is the author of more than 70 articles on various aspects of social welfare policy.
He is the son of formerRutgers University professorMonroe Berkowitz (1919–2009).
