Surface gravity wave fixed by refraction against a rigid boundary, often a shoaling beach
Example of the surface elevation of a progressive edge wave

Influid dynamics, anedge wave is asurface gravity wave fixed byrefraction against a rigid boundary, often ashoalingbeach. Progressive edge waves travel along this boundary, varyingsinusoidally along it and diminishingexponentially in the offshore direction.[1]
