Portuguese footballer (born 1987)
José Edgar Andrade da Costa (born 14 April 1987) is a Portuguese former professionalfootballer who played as aforward orwinger .
He played 284Primeira Liga games and scored 21 goals forNacional andMarítimo , having started his career with a third team fromMadeira ,União .
Born inCâmara de Lobos ,Madeira , Costa finished his development at localC.F. União . He made his senior debut with the club in 2006, and played threethird-division seasons with it.
Costa joined neighbouringC.D. Nacional in summer 2009, appearing in 14 games in hisfirst season in thePrimeira Liga (nine as asubstitute ) and scoring two goals[ 2] [ 3] Rio Ave FC .[ 4]
On 14 July 2011, Costa scored on his continental debut in thesecond qualifying round of theUEFA Europa League , opening a 1–1 draw away to Iceland'sFimleikafélag Hafnarfjarðar .[ 5] West Ham United ,[ 6]
In summer 2013, Costa was loaned toMoreirense F.C. of theSegunda Liga .[ 7] S.L. Benfica B (2–1)[ 8] C.D. Feirense (4–0)[ 9] eventual champions .[ 10]
Costa subsequently returned to the Portuguese top tier withC.S. Marítimo . On 27 November 2015, he wassent off in a 3–1 loss at Nacional in theMadeira derby ;[ 11] [ 12] captain before the start of2016–17 ,[ 13] [ 14] [ 15]
On 12 January 2020, Costa played his 200th top-flight game in a goalless draw withVitória de Guimarães .[ 16] [ 17] [ 18] [ 19]
In January 2023, Costa accused hisagent Miguel Pinho of attempting to bribe him to lose toS.L. Benfica .[ 20]
