Edgar Richard BurgessFZS (23 September 1891 – 23 April 1952) was an Englishrower who competed for Great Britain in the1912 Summer Olympics.[1]
Burgess was born in London and educated atEton College andMagdalen College, Oxford, where he was a Diploma student in anthropology.[2] He joinedLeander Club and wasbowman of the Leandereight which won the gold medal for Great Britainrowing at the 1912 Summer Olympics. He was the only member of the crew who had not won a blue rowing in theBoat Race.[3] In 1913, he was bow for the winningOxford in the Boat Race.
Burgess was a member of theInner Temple and spent many years with the Sudan Political Service. He was a Fellow of theZoological Society.[4] On retirement, he lived in Morocco where he died at his home in Tangier.
