Edward James Holland Jr. (born October 30, 1939) is an American singer, songwriter, and record producer.[1][4] He is brother toBrian Holland.

Holland was born in Detroit, Michigan, United States.[4] Although he was an earlyMotown artist who recorded minorhit singles such as "Jamie",[5] he started working behind the scenes due tostage fright. He was a member ofHolland–Dozier–Holland, the songwriting and production team responsible for much of theMotown Sound and hitrecords byMartha and the Vandellas,The Supremes, TheFour Tops, andThe Isley Brothers, among others.[4] He has written or co-written 143 hits in the US charts and 80 in the UK.[6]

Holland served as the team's lyricist, and also worked with producerNorman Whitfield on lyrics for the songs he produced forthe Marvelettes andthe Temptations, like "Too Many Fish in the Sea" and "Beauty Is Only Skin Deep".[4]

Holland also composed songs for theFirst Wives Club musical.[7]

Holland has been involved in severalcivil court cases regarding tax, loans, and music rights, in 1985, 1988, 1996, 2017, and 2020.[8][9][10][11][12]

In 2019, Brian (along with brother Eddie and Dave Thompson) co-authored an autobiography of Holland–Dozier–Holland, entitledCome and Get These Memories, named afterthe hit single byMartha and the Vandellas.[13]
