TheEcosocialist Left (French:Gauche écosocialiste,GES) is a Frenchleft-wing political organisation formed by activists fromEnsemble! and theNew Anticapitalist Party. Founded asEnsemble Insoumis·e in 2017, it adopted its current name in 2022.[3]
The Ecosocialist Left was created as a rebranding of theEnsemble Insoumis·e current to highlight eco-socialism as its central ideology.[3] In May 2023, GES held a congress to formalize its internal structure, while remaining part ofLa France Insoumise with political and financial autonomy.[4] In 2024, it expanded locally in the Basque Country, absorbingEnsemble Pays Basque.[5]
GES identifies aseco-socialist,anti-capitalist, andsoft Eurosceptic. It advocates for feminist, antiracist, LGBTQI rights, and disability justice as part of its broader anti-capitalist and ecological program.[1][6] The party seeks systemic change combining ecological and social revolutions.[1][6]
The GES operates autonomously withinLa France Insoumise and has focused on regional development, particularly in the Basque Country.[4][5]
It is also connected to the initiativeL'Après, founded byClémentine Autain, focused on social and ecological experimentation.[7]
