Eckwersheim is acommune, in theBas-Rhindepartment inGrand Est in north-easternFrance.[3] It is around 11 km (7 mi) north ofStrasbourg.

On 14 November 2015 the commune was thelocation of a derailment during testing of aTGV train along theLGV Est high-speed rail line. Eleven people were killed and 42 others were injured after the train caught fire and plunged into theMarne–Rhine Canal.[4]

EngraverHenry Wolf was born in Eckwersheim, only to eventually live and die inNew York City.[5]
