Eggmühl (formerly known inEnglish asEggmuhl orEckmühl) is a village ofGermany, inBavaria, on theGroße Laaber, 20 km S.E. ofRegensburg. Since 1978, it is part of the municipalitySchierling.[1] It is famous as the site of abattle fought on the 22 April 1809 during theWar of the Fifth Coalition between the French, the Bavarians, theWürttembergers underNapoleon, and the Austrians under theArchduke Charles, which resulted in the defeat of the latter. Napoleon, in recognition ofMarshal Davout's great share in the victory, conferred on him the title of Prince of Eckmühl.[2]
