Eberhard Fischer (born 15 October 1941) is a Germanart historian,ethnologist and author based in Switzerland.[1][2][better source needed] He is a former Director[3] and the incumbent President ofRietberg Society, Switzerland.[4] Fischer was honored by theGovernment of India, in 2012, with the fourth highest Indian civilian award ofPadma Shri.[5]

Biography

Eberhard Fischer was born inBerlin, Germany on 15 October 1941.[2] He is an ethnologist and art historian who is known to have researched on the heritages of India[6][7][8][9] and other African and Asian places.[10] He is a former director ofRietberg Society and serves as its president.[4] He is also the Secretary General of the Swiss-Liechtenstein Foundation for Archaeological Research Abroad (SLSA).[11] Fischer has authored several books on art and ethnic heritage[12][13] and has contributed to the publication of many others.[14][15] He has also producedNainsukh,[16] a 90 mins feature film inDogri language with English subtitles, in 2010, with filmmakerAmit Dutta .[17] TheGovernment of India awarded him the civilian honor ofPadma Shri in 2012.[4][18] After receiving the award on 4 April 2012, Fischer donated his collection of over 40 books toJawaharlal Nehru University, Delhi.[18]
