Transfer functions in imaging

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
(Redirected fromEOTF)

Images andvideos use specifictransfer functions to describe the relationship betweenelectrical signal, scene light and displayed light.

Definition

[edit]

Theopto-electronic transfer function (OETF) is thetransfer function having the scene light as input and converting into the picture or video signal as output. This is typically done within acamera.[1]

Theelectro-optical transfer function (EOTF) is thetransfer function having the picture or video signal as input and converting it into the linear light output of the display.[1] This is done within adisplay device.

Theopto-optical transfer function (OOTF) is thetransfer function having the scene light as input and the displayed light as output. The OOTF is thecomposition of the OETF and the EOTF and is usuallynon-linear.[1]
