William Dwight Schultz (born November 24, 1947) is an American television, film and voice actor.
He is known for his roles asCaptain "Howling Mad" Murdock on the 1980s action seriesThe A-Team and asReginald Barclay in theStar Trek franchise.[1][2]
He is also known in animation as themegalomaniacal mad scientist Dr. Animo in theBen 10 series,Adrian Toomes/Vulture in someMarvel video games, Chef Mung Daal in the children's animated seriesChowder, and Eddie the Squirrel inCatDog.[1]
Schultz was born inBaltimore on November 24, 1947.[3] He is of German descent and a Roman Catholic. He attendedCalvert Hall College High School andTowson University.[4]
Schultz's breakthrough role was that of Captain "Howling Mad" Murdock onThe A-Team. He appeared in several films, includingThe Fan (1981), and he starred inFat Man and Little Boy (1989) asJ. Robert Oppenheimer. In the early 1990s, he had a recurring role as LieutenantReginald Barclay inStar Trek: The Next Generation; he reprised the role inStar Trek: Voyager and the filmStar Trek: First Contact. He played in the 1992 television filmChild of Rage, starring oppositeMel Harris as a compassionate couple who adopt a troubled girl who has been sexually abused.[1] In November 2009, Schultz confirmed that he and formerA-Team co-starDirk Benedict would make cameo appearances in the feature filmThe A-Team.[5]
Schultz hosted a conservative talk-radio podcast calledHowling Mad Radio which ended in March 2009. He has also guest-hosted on numerous occasions forMichael Savage onThe Savage Nation,Jerry Doyle onThe Jerry Doyle Show, andRusty Humphries onThe Rusty Humphries Show.[5] He also posts political commentaries and podcasts on his official fansite.[6]
Schultz married actressWendy Fulton in 1983.[7][unreliable source?] They have a daughter.[8][failed verification]
Schultz is Catholic[9] and a political conservative. In 2012 he began regular appearances onThe Glazov Gang, an Internet political talk show hosted byJamie Glazov, managing editor ofFrontPage Magazine.[10]
